Gather round, brethren. Now there has been a thousand and one rumours about the Orisha Pikin Comicbook series and the sudden disappearance of some of its favourite characters. We haven’t heard from Baba Orunmila since the first two issues, and this is understandable. He seemed to have been dominant or influential in the classrooms alone. But what about Jesus! Let’s talk about Jesus for a second. Everyone has been so distracted with Sango’s troubles, eshu’s mischiefs and Obatala’s good looks that we failed to notice that Jesus disappeared the day Sango allegedly killed *Sannkofamaan. Orisha Pikin is the only comicbook I’ve read that Jesus wasn’t necessary for everyone. Y’all need Jesus. For real! On a lighter note: In a recent interview with the creator of the Orisha Pikin franchise, he stated that “Jesus has been secured as a recurring character with a major influence in the story. ” Which means we’ll be seeing more of…

Orisha Pikin was one of the Dandiest things that happened to the African Comic Space between late 2016 and early 2017.  Then one beautiful morning, the creator pulled off its single publishing company, Vortex comics for some controversial reasons. On the brighter side, we caught up with the creator of Orisha Pikin last week and asked a few questions about the Comicbook Sam: Okay, so we haven’t heard from your team since you left Vortex and we wanted to know if  we’ll still get to read new issues of Orisha Pikin this year. Yamakasi: Op5 should drop around September and October. From there it’s going to be published every two months with no interruption. Sam: Awesome! So it’s a continuation of what we’ve experienced from the past? Yamakasi: Yeah! It’s a continuation Sam: Cool! What should the fans expect from these upcoming issues? Yamakasi: There is something new in the designs of the…

June 10, 2017 is the date comic fans need to mark on their calendar. Earlier today, the Dreammaker, Ayodele Elegba, founder, Lagos Comic Con and CEO Spoof animations took to Instagram to announce the birth of a Spoof Comics unit. Ayodele pegged the release date of titles under the re-branded comic unit to June 10. Although details are still sketchy about what the Spoof Universe will look like but the publisher promises a debut of four comic titles and publication of at least six titles by the end of the year. All of which are fresh! As if that is not exciting enough, Spoof CEO via an exclusive gist gave a glimpse of what titles to expect. According the publisher, the fans should anticipate the debut releases of never seen before African titles like Jinx, Voyager, Boxsa and Vantage. The four titles which are aimed at kick-starting the re-branded Spoof…

Never a period in the history of African comic that a comic book fandom has been so intensely interesting like in recent months. OrishaPikin, a Vortex Inc. title which is currently in its Issue 4 and written by talented KiyindouYamakasi has seen some of us pitch tent with our favourite god (character) in a positive way that even God himself will be jealous! Hypnotised with the story, some of us children of God can now boldly say we “rep” an Orisha. I for one belong to Team Sango. (My pastor should come and beat me!) In case you don’t know, Orisha Pikin literally translates Children of god! Hilarious as it may seem, Orisha Pikin sweetly called OP by fans, was surely peppered and salted by a nourish, educative and positive story arc as well as a great art that makes one devour all and still lick ones lips in anticipation…

What a beautiful time to be alive. Wait a minute, for some obvious economic reasons it is not, really. But in the Creative Arts Industry, it is. We are at the time when our “creative somebodys” have the power to make tomorrow’s history and shape the industry as a whole. A lot of creative people are already doing that – making history! I’m literally screaming in excitement. It’s not normal; I know. The Founder of Spoof Animations and Lagos Comic Con, Ayodele Elegba recently made an announcement on his Facebook page and we’re excited about it. There will be an Industry Night for the Creative Arts Industry from the 31st of March and yes! Admission is FREE. From his post (below) it was obvious the plan was being implememnted all the while and we did not know it. “Hurrah! We now have our own industry night. Yes, finally I get…
